Dear Equality Supporter,
LET DOCTORS--NOT POLITICIANS--MAKE MEDICAL DECISIONS
There is currently an attempt in the state legislature to win
political points from public misunderstanding of the transgender
community. An amendment to SB 6386, Washington State's
supplemental budget, would have lawmakers instead of doctors
determining whether gender identity assistance is "medically
necessary." Please click here to send legislators the message
that changes to Medicaid policy are unnecessary, unwise, and a
violation of federal Medicaid rules:

This amendment has already been approved by the Senate and the
House. Medicaid rarely pays for gender identity assistance, and
a system of determining "medical necessity" is already in place.
The rare child or adult who receives Medicaid funding for
counseling or treatment has passed a rigorous screening process.
Politicians should not scapegoat the transgender community in
order to appear tough on budget matters:

Our last advocacy campaign generated over three thousand letters
to state lawmakers. When we speak out, politicians notice. Let's
stand together as a community to ensure fair treatment of our
transgender brothers and sisters:

Thanks for all that you do.
